Red Tape

For Halloween I think I’m gonna dress up as a big ole ball of red tape! I’ll leave the porch light on so kids know I have sweets to allocate, and when they follow the rules and make it onto the front porch I’ll demand all the candy from everyone, and then slam the door shut.  Then I’ll mumble very loudly for them to get off my lawn. Why? Because red tape is mean. And self-serving. And fat.

It’s totally possible to appreciate something and at the same time hate its disfunction. That’s where I am today with the Social Security Administration, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Ticket to Work program.  They all do great things for people that need their services. That’s a complete thought. I value the support they have or will provide for my son. (True and heartfelt, and also just in case they read this.)

Peewee Herman said, “Everybody’s got a big butt”. Let’s talk about mine!  Here it is…all the things I just said about the SSA, and VR, and TW are accurate…BUT, is it too much to ask that they all get on the same page, so I don’t have to flip through a thousand to find the answer to one freaking question? Huh??!!

The red tape, inaccurate information, and changing procedure midstream makes me want to egg your building, or t-p it…or all the other things that happen on all hallows eve, that I would never do to anyone, ever.  Because I’m civilized!

Okay. Deep breath. Think about my calm place. A place with no tape.  And lots of candy.
